Corinne Martin

Graduate student
Surgery
I’m a PhD student in Bioengineering with the Cromer Lab, and my primary research interest is in utilizing synthetic biology and gene editing to investigate and manipulate cell behavior. During my undergrad at the University of Maryland, I worked on utilizing biomaterials for targeted delivery of immunomodulatory compounds to the lymph nodes to combat autoimmunity. Through internships at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and Genentech, I used CRISPR and prime editing to investigate the genes underlying synapse formation in the developing brain and worked on optimizing base editors for dual A-to-G and C-to-T edits. In the Cromer Lab, I aim to use synthetic biology to enhance the tissue-specificity of gene editing technologies to make in vivo editing more clinically viable. Outside of research, I love rock climbing, pole dancing, hiking, camping, and cooking, and I’m a certified yoga teacher!
